“The adoption of electric vehicles is widely happening,” stated IDTechEx Technology Analyst, Aman Atak. Evidence of this shift to electric is the build of the associated ecosystem, as well as the refinement of components and supply chain. Atak recaps the panel she had just moderated on this topic in the above video.
The panelists did deep dives on their technologies and how their approaches promise further cost reductions and reliability improvements, including
- The benefits of integrated charging and reuse of batteries for quick-charge power stations as proposed by Inverted Power.
- Protean with their in-wheel electric motor and how that allows for a skateboard type chassis, as well as new form factors (see interview with Protean, here)
- Terzo Power is taking a hybrid approach to electrification, as they are powering heavy machinery (e.g. tractors, dump trucks, etc.) and have much greater electricity demands than a typical vehicle.
- Bosch provided insight into their research on solid state batteries and progress.
And in about two months, the IDTechEx Show will be back in Santa Clara and it will be a great opportunity to get an update on the component technologies that are driving change in the things we use in everyday life.
