Welcome and Seasons Greetings:
The Western Cable show and the holiday season have become synonymous for me. For one thing, it is always held the week after Thanksgiving, right at the start of the holiday season. Like the holidays, the Western Show has always been an exciting event that holds the promise of surprises and good things to come. More importantly, like the holidays, the Western Show offers a chance to reconnect with friends and, in my case, family.
And in this month’s newsletter, we will try to connect you with the things of interest we saw at this holiday funfest now known as Broadband Plus. So, from all of us associated with Viodi, we wish you happy holidays and best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous 2003!
Broadband Plus Wrap-Up – FTTH STB, Sony’s Cable Splash, Playstation Set-top Box:
Twenty-two years ago, a young, naïve and very enthusiastic 18 year old kid made his first trek to what was then called the Western Cable show. Set at the Anaheim Hilton and basement of the Disneyland hotel, this was truly an exciting event for a pair of eyes new to the cable industry. This show gave a view of an entire industry – from programming to technology – that was about to change from simply retransporting broadcast signals to one that would create entirely new programming categories. Making the Most of Your Cable Plant by Peter Lowten:
During a visit to BroadbandPlus, the New Western Show, in Anaheim I had an opportunity to delve into a subject that a number of Independent operators have asked about. With so much concentration put onto the delivery of services over fiber and twisted pair copper, the fact that many ITCs own cable plant is sometimes overlooked….. Follow-up to Last Month’s Review of Movielink:
Last month’s review of the new Internet movie on demand service, Movielink, prompted several comments from readers. As a result, I had to dig deep through my seldom accessed wallet to find another $1.99 to watch a movie. Learn of the new and subtle things I learned about this new and potentially disruptive entertainment service……..Click here for the follow up to last month’s review.
