Digital Media Adaptor (DMA)<\/strong> is techno-jargon that, I suspect, is new to most telecom people and is very foreign to the average consumer. In a nutshell, the Digital Media Adaptor allows video, picture and\/or audio files to be played from the PC, but viewed or listened to on a standard piece of consumer electronics (e.g. a television, stereo, etc.). It is difficult to explain the benefits of something like this and why a consumer would need or want this capability. <\/p>\n

I noticed on late night television, however, that Linksys<\/strong> has a commercial for a Digital Media Adapter that does an excellent job of showing the benefits of the technology. In the commercial, a teenage boy brings his date back to his house. He invites the scorn of his younger sister by calling her a \u201csquirt\u201d<\/strong> and telling her to leave the room.<\/p>\n

When he steps out to get his date a drink, the teenage boy\u2019s sister, unbeknownst to him, transmits pictures from her lap-top to the television that the date is watching. These pictures feature the teenage boy hugging and carrying on with other girls. Needless to say, the young man\u2019s date is not pleased with what she sees on the television and leaves this apparent lothario<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

This description loses something in translation \u2013 ah, the power of video and images. Suffice it to say, that Linksys does a good job of showing<\/strong> the usefulness of the home network, as well as why a person might want a Digital Media Adapter.
