Commerce Department to Bring International Buyers, Industry Expertise to the Western Show <\/em> <\/strong> <\/p>\n

Washington, D.C. November 24, 2003 –There are big opportunities overseas for U.S. companies in the cable and broadband products sector. That’s the word from Commerce Department (DOC) trade specialists who will be at the Western Show in Anaheim, California, December 2-5, 2003 to counsel show exhibitors. <\/p>\n

Industry experts from U.S. embassies will bring delegations of foreign buyers looking for U.S. products to the show. These delegations of pre-screened buyers will travel to the show as part of the Commerce Department’s International Buyer Program (IBP). The Western Show is one of only 32 trade shows selected to participate in the program this year. To draw international buyers to the show, the IBP conducted a massive promotion of the Western Show through the U.S. Department of Commerce\u2019s worldwide network of Embassies, Consulates and Commercial Centers.<\/p>\n

DOC industry experts predict that the global telecommunications industry would see a 9 percent compound growth between 2003 and 2006. The sectors that are forecasted to do the best are enterprise services, wireless services, and broadband. The telecommunications market in Western Europe is the second largest in the world, after North America, but China has been the fastest growing telecommunications market in the world the past few years. In January of 2003, China\u2019s Ministry of Information Industry reported that capital expenditures on telecommunications equipment amounted to $25.5 billion in 2002.<\/p>\n

During the show, exhibitors, buyers, and attendees are invited to visit the International Business Center (IBC), located in Hall C, upper level, above the registration area, to meet international buyer delegations and get export counseling from domestic and overseas Department of Commerce Trade Specialists. Matchmaking opportunities will also be available for the U.S. exhibitors with DOC led buyer delegations from the Philippines, South Korea, and Kazakhstan. South Korea is bringing over 100 potential buyers, one of the largest IBP Buyer Delegations ever assembled. <\/p>\n
