Yesvideo<\/a><\/strong>, founded in 1999, has weaved sophisticated technology and process to inexpensively convert video or film to DVD. By centralizing the process and applying their 14 patents, they are taking what was a mom and pop industry<\/strong> and are making it much more efficient and cost effective. With typical costs of $20 to $30, a consumer can have their linear videos or film converted into chapterized DVDs. <\/p>\n

To most consumers, Yesvideo is unknown. Yesvideo has chosen a strategy where they sell directly to retailers. They have relationships with the major brand drugstores (e.g. Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) and private label the DVDs, such that the brand the consumer sees is that of the retailer. Yesvideo will even place the retailer\u2019s logo on the DVD case<\/strong>. A consumer simply purchases a mailer at the retailer and sends in their videotape directly to Yesvideo.<\/p>\n

Their factory is impressive<\/strong>, as they barcode every tape that comes in and track it throughout the process. They convert virtually any consumer format (e.g., VHS, 8mm, mini-DV) to an MPEG format. Their software automatically detects scene changes and intelligently places up to 54 chapter points. They then duplicate and print a label on the DVD. Each DVD is then spot-checked for quality, possible copyright infringement or violation of decency standards. The finished DVD is returned, along with the original material to its owner. <\/p>\n

In addition to the consumer market, they also focus on the professional market (e.g. videographers), the legal market (depositions is a huge potential market) and the consumer electronics market. To this last point, their technology has been licensed to two DVD recorder<\/strong> manufacturers, Apex and Philips. By the third quarter, this technology will be integrated into a DVD recorder, such that a consumer will be able to easily create their own DVDs. Of course, the DVD recorders will not include the cool thermal-printed label and DVD case that Yesvideo supplies with their mail-in service. <\/p>\n

This is definitely a company to watch. <\/p>\n
