The wireless automation industry is now counted in that group. It has been true that finding the \u2018killer\u2019 application is very difficult and has been the signal for disaster for some of the more interesting technical products and solutions. But even in today\u2019s world of electronic socialization and technology omnipresence, there is no market without an appealing application<\/strong>.<\/p>\n And the wireless automation<\/strong> people seem to be having this difficulty in even describing their markets and product direction. When asked what is the largest market today, the answer was , “well, both, small installations and large installations.” It seems that if larger installations were a major portion of their sales (50%?) the market direction would not be hard to understand. The market is the highest number of nodes. <\/p>\n When asked how they are addressing the smaller user market, they said they need to get more in touch with the installation businesses that target those customers. This would include the alarm installers, or cable installers or maybe pest controllers or rug shampooers. It was hard to tell. They did admit that if you go ask these targeted installers as to what they know about home automation and residential automation, they almost unanimously will respond, \u2018what?\u2019<\/p>\n So the target has been identified, the problem is the target does not care nor see a reason for adding a technology product to their offerings. <\/p>\n One thing I have always enjoyed about the Parks get-togethers is they have really fun people talking about really fun things \u2013 home automation, IPTV, digital music. And the audience seems to love it, because it is an audience that loves really neat technical things. But how about the rest of the world<\/strong>; how about the installers calling on every home that wouldn\u2019t have the slightest idea as to why or what home automation? The voting members of the high technology enjoyment society need to make sure they don\u2019t fool themselves <\/strong>in to thinking every body wants to belong.
