A Little Help from Our Friends:….
This Beatles song keeps going through my head as I try to put some order to all of the things going on right now. After the introductory video for this issue, I am sure I will hear from some my friends with suggestions that I have a face, voice and presence that is meant to be behind a computer and not in front of a camera.
The big focus for Viodi right now is the upcoming Independent Telco Video Content Conference. Of course, the conference couldn’t happen without the fine line-up of friends, who will be enlightening us regarding cable television, iTV and VOD, or without the generous support of our friends who are sponsoring this conference.
So, please read on about some of the interesting video products developed by different friends in different companies….
and in the meantime, we will all get by with a little help from our friends……

Also, Vantage Point Solutions is providing its whitepaper, “Access Network” to the attendees of the Independent Telco Video Content Conference. I was skeptical when I was told I could get a response rate of greater than 20% to an email campaign. This is the type of response we experienced, however, with the video mail sent a couple of weeks ago. We received this great response, despite my silly mistake of not including a last name on the email account.
Recipients received an email from “Kenneth”, so I am sure a number of people automatically assumed it was spam. This response has proven to me that videomail could be a very effective marketing tool for the independent telco, as well as potentially opening up new service opportunities for the independent telco……..Click here to read more.
Video Chat – a Sticky Service for Independent Telcos?
Despite the poor economy and the dour views of the venture capitalists in Menlo Park, technical innovation and product improvement continues. An example of this is www.watchnetcam.com, which took Microsoft’s NetMeeting and made it useful and easy to use. This service makes video conferencing as simple as instant messaging and could lead to new revenue sources and reductions of churn for independent telcos……Click here to learn more.
iMagic Purchase by Alcatel – the Start of a Trend?
Does the take-over a Canadian-based company by a French-based company mean the resulting company will be French-Canadian? This and other questions came to mind as I found this to be an interesting development since it could signal the beginning of further consolidation between middleware and equipment providers that supply the components necessary for independent telcos to deploy interactive and on-demand television.
