USTA’s Telecom ’03 has a line-up that includes FCC Chairman Michael Powell as a keynote speaker. Last year they had something like 2,200+ attendees and they are expecting more this year. The exhibition hall has been sold out since August. In addition to the sessions they are producing, they are working with several organization that are producing several conferences and seminars within US Telecom ’03, as follows:

  • J.D.POWER and ASSOCIATES EXECUTIVE SUMMIT (Invitation Only)
  • Telecom Engineering Conference (TEC)
  • Finding Profits in Large-Scale Hot Spot Network Deployments- Broadband Wireless
  • Telestrategies Cost and Revenue Management Summit
  • Viodi’s Fall, Independent Telco Video Content Conference

With a 135 suppliers, the exhibit hall has been sold out since August. There will be a variety of suppliers showing off their wares. The following represents some of what will be found on the tradeshow floor. I encourage you to make the rounds and see what else is new.

AFC: Evidence that video is a requirement for access suppliers’ new products, AFC will be demonstrating its solution for delivering video over its access product line. Since June, Milton, Kansas-based Twin Valley Telephone (TVT) has been using this platform to deliver video, telephone and high-speed Internet in a bundled package that they call 1Link™. AFC also will be showing their Fiber to the Premise product, which converts their existing AccessMax™ into a PON (Passive Optical Network) platform.

ETI: Gluing together the disparate hardware pieces together with telcos’ various operational support and billing systems is the specialty of ETI Software. With over a decade of experience, ETI provides the back-office integration software that allows Hybrid Fiber Coax, xDSL and Fiber to the Premise systems to integrate seamlessly with legacy billing systems, letting even the smallest of telcos present bundled services on the same bill. At Telecom ’03, they will be showing off their latest product offering that is allowing the provisioning of triple play services to thousands of new fiber to the premise passings.

Minerva Networks: Visitors to Minerva Networks will get a chance to win a 27” RCA/Thomson television, courtesy of Thomson. They may also get the chance to meet Bob Wallace, formerly of AFC and now Minerva’s new Vice President of North American Sales. While there they can take a look at the newest version of their Video Services Management Software system, their IP Television Headend and find out why Matanuska Telephone chose Minerva for their expansion into video services.

NDS: A leading supplier of encryption technology, NDS, will be participating in USTA Telecom ’03 via Viodi’s conference. Ian Tapp, Vice President of Market Development for NDS, will be discussing the importance of content protection. Partially owned by News Corporation, the global media and entertainment company, NDS has worked for years with satellite television providers and studios to ensure the protection of their content. They are generously sponsoring the drink reception at the Fall conference. The fact that they have such a significant presence at this show is news, as it means they believe the telco video market segment is real.

Paradyne: Be sure to check out the 25 television, “video wall” at the Paradyne booth. They’ll have it along with demos from partners Myrio, Kasenna and Skystream. Also, rumor has it they will have a sweet deal on their new 4200IP video-ready DSLAM. They are in booth 607.
