One of the advantages of organizing a conference is that I get a sneak preview of the presentations. The presentations I have seen so far have exceeded my expectations. For instance, Karen McKee gives the term iTV a whole new meaning when she explains some of Horizon Chillicothe’s efforts to transform themselves from a POTS company to a 21st century multimedia success story. DVRs Are the Talk of Tinsel Town:

Day two of the Digital Hollywood conference was jam-packed with more sessions than I had time to attend. There were sessions on HDTV, Content Protection and Gaming that I missed. Fortunately, I was still able to listen to a diverse group of speakers which included representatives from MovieLink, TIVO, Cartoon Network, Netflix and Microsoft.

Sessions I attended looked at the set-top future, the migration of Internet-based video distribution from the PC to the TV and iTV [interactive television] success stories. The impending proliferation of DVRs and the importance of content portability to consumers were two things that I heard mentioned repeatedly by the speakers. Click here to read more

iTV for Governor

The whole topic of iTV (interactive television) was an underlying theme of the conference. Although there may be some revenue producing opportunities, churn reduction seems to be the main motivation today, although this could change as advertisers are convinced of the value of iTV applications. Even if a telco is not planning on adding video or doesn’t have iTV in its sights, the marketing techniques served up by the many panelists heard over the course of several days would still be of great value.
