IEEE ComSocSCV has assembled a power panel of five telecom/photonics/networking industry experts to present and discuss the status, trends, and future directions of the “Network” in each of their subject areas. Included will be: the Mobile Broadband Operator’s Dilemma (and techniques to solve it), Photonics, Optical Components & Networks, DSL and evolution of high-speed Internet access over copper twisted pair, Evolution of Ethernet (will it be everywhere?), Comcast’s Triple Play Delivery Network and Business Class services to enterprise customers.
The panelists will comment on the current state of each of these areas, how it has changed from prior decades, what’s driving it now (growth engines), and what may be coming in the near future (e.g. cloud computing, higher speed wireline Internet access, 4G mobile broadband, more video services, etc). For example, the mobile operator’s dilemma- the revenue is in voice services, but the demand is for high-speed data with low latency.

Ken, Thanks a lot for posting our signature meeting for 2011! This will be the 3rd IEEE ComSocSCV meeting within 6 days – an all time record for any IEEE Soceity/Section/Chapter! This as well as all our technical meetings is held at National Seminconductor in Santa Clara, CA. The meeting is convened at 6:30pm with the Chair’s opening remarks, followed by the presentations and panel discussion/ audience Q & A.
It will be the only meeting of the year that I chair and moderate the panel.

Meeting was a great success! Thanks to all the panelists, IEEE ComSoc officer and attendees. Slides have been posted on our web site: http://www.comsocscv.org in the 2011 Meeting Archives section along with slides from the SPRINT M2M tour on March 7th. Our next 2 meetings are posted on the main web page.
This meeting really showed the true spirit and good intentions of IEEE in helping to educate and enlighten our members on the true state of the networking/ telecom industry and the role ComSoc plays.
The panelists interesting and enlightening contributions were very much appreciated by all in attendence as I had very good feedback from attendees as I was leaving the auditorium.
The March 9th Town Hall meeting presentations as well as Sprint’s March 7th presentations from IEEE ComSocSCV seminar and tour have been posted to the ComSocSCV web site:
