Viodi View – 04/28/24

Is it possible to ever see the entire picture, particularly when it comes to a person? Slices are all we see and hear. It has been Viodi’s privilege to capture and document small slices of people’s lives. Most of Viodi’s articles and videos deal with the professional aspect of what an individual is doing in the moment. But, as seen in the Korner, the professional and personal in the Viodi circles are often intertwined.

A Lemon Slice that May Herald the Dawn a New Medium – GV

Speaking of slices, Lemon Slice, with its interactive one-shot video solution, believes that we are at the dawn of a new medium. One that is about real-time interactivity with a video character. Their real-time video transformer model allows the creation of characters from a single image. Applications include: advertising, live support & sales, education, and entertainment. Some Chirps and Short Thoughts

  • Terri Terry was special to so many people. There are so many slices to what made Terri Terry unique: mom, spouse, sister, friend, business owner, civic booster, mentor, horse rider, daredevil, champion of a Preakness Stakes winner, conqueror of life. Her lovely memorial brought many of these slices together and was a reminder of how she enriched the lives of those she directly and indirectly touched.
  • The focus of Jason Wall’s Epik Mellon podcast is to bring out the stories of the individuals behind the technology that underlies the Internet. Fortunately, Jason interviewed the late Dave Taht on his podcast just before his passing. Dave was the Chief Science Officer for LibreQoS. He is legendary for his work on latency, as well as his efforts to bring the Internet to the unserved. Memorials to him and his unselfish approach to life are many. This one, shared by his colleagues at LibreQoS, is a good place to learn more about him and his impact.
  • And on a lighter note, here is Roger Bindl’s amusing ode to corporate jargon. In a world of generative AI, it is important to note that it is Roger playing the guitar and singing the words.

The Korner – The Architect of the Network, The Narrator of Technological Reckoning

Many Viodi View readers will recognize Tom Starr’s name from his pioneering work in the broadband field. An example of his leadership was his role as Chair of the Broadband Forum. We caught up with Tom at the 30th anniversary of the Broadband Forum. This conversation wasn’t about standards and technology, but how he was hit by the metaphorical bolt of lightning with a story, a story only he could tell.

In the interview, he talks about the addition of fiction author to his technology expert resume. His combination of imagination, technical grounding, and writing skills makes his three novels unique. He also has some good advice for aspiring authors.
