Cloud-Based AV Simulation #CES2019

A cloud-based simulation software system that allows OEMs to test different driving scenarios from real-world conditions – literally with real-world data – is what Cognata offers. With big-name backing, they have the potential to be a clearinghouse for simulation scenarios among different OEMs. It solves the dilemma reported in a RAND report suggesting that it isn’t possible to demonstrate safety through driving only.

Their simulations could become a gold standard and a threshold for motor vehicle agencies to determine whether an autonomous vehicle is road-worthy. As importantly, they could be a “stamp of approval” that provides consumers confidence that a given autonomous vehicle is “safe”.
