A week to design and 45 days to produce. This short timeline of translating a vehicle concept from a designer’s head to a physical manifestation is unprecedented. In this exclusive video, National Italian Car Designer Hall of Fame inductee, Michael V. Robinson, unveils at CES2024 what he terms a GT-limousine concept car.
As usual with Robinson’s designs, he takes a human-first approach to the design and he has created some amazing features and comforts, based on the latest technologies (e.g. steer-by-wire, electric propulsion, automation). To be clear, this is a prototype and that is the bigger story.
He and Honpe, his prototype manufacturing partner, are promoting the rapid development of concepts that can then be refined with real-world feedback. The goal is to help Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs – e.g., car companies) create vehicles much more quickly than traditional approaches.
At the same, the design techniques employed by Robinson Design, together with the capabilities of Honpe enable designs that excite.
Stay tuned for future interviews with Mike, where he expands upon the design process, talks about the importance of design for accessibility, and reveals a unique process for eliminating chrome plating and its negative environmental impact.
