The soft crackle and the warm glow of the fireplaces provided the appropriate holiday touch. The desk agent was friendly, professional, and responsive. As might be expected in Silicon Valley, this hotel experience was delivered via broadband and high-resolution displays. The “screens everywhere” future seen at CES2007 is today’s reality. And Gary Johnson’s advice from that conference is as relevant then as it is today:
“I think every one of our peer companies should have a representative there. I can’t think of a better place to get a true sense of what consumers are doing with the services we offer, as well as truly understand where our industry is going”

- Waymo equals Lyft’s market share in San Francisco at 22%.
- Don’t count Toyota out of the driverless game given its collaboration with May Mobility.

The Korner – Exit Interview with Gary Johnson
It must have been the winter of 2000 when I met Gary Johnson. He was a relatively young engineer with a remarkable grasp of technology and the needs of Paul Bunyan Telephone’s members. He was part of a group of Minnesota telephone companies exploring video-on-demand. Fast-forward to the present and Gary is retiring from the company where he started his career. Like his predecessor, Paul Freude, Gary leaves a lasting legacy.
